So, it's nice to learn that Disney is serious about its digital presence. During its third quarter, Disney announced a new analytics platform called Disney Magic in beta. Disney Magic, developed by Disney's OTT and analytics team, will enable Disney's video- and apps-based OTT platforms to track, analyze and monetize a user's online and mobile behavior.
Here's the backstory: You may recall that Disney has an interesting joint venture in Sling TV, the live-TV service that the company owns a small stake in. Not only that, but there are two Disney OTT apps (also called Disney OTT services) available for digital streaming: Disney+ and ESPN+. And, a third OTT service called DisneyLife (which includes access to Disney's kids' OTTs, such as Disney Junior, Disney XD and Disney Channel) is coming. In other words, Disney already has a ton of different streaming services to give its customers and a real interest in analyzing how users interact with those services.
But, with the announcement of Disney Magic, the company is now offering its OTT services an analytics platform for behavioral tracking and behavioral-based advertising. In its announcement, Disney also said it was planning to launch more consumer-facing services based on the analytics, so that it can get more "depth of understanding" on users. For example, perhaps it can use what it knows about a person's mobile device usage to serve them ads for a more effective search-advertising campaign.
As for the specific features of Disney Magic:
Disney Magic lets customers view information about their use of Disney's video- and apps-based streaming platforms, including an overview of their activity (for example, what shows they watched, what videos they viewed, how they used the apps, which regions they accessed the services from, and so on) and what devices they used.
Disney Magic also enables the company to provide analytics to its video- and apps-based streaming platforms, such as how well Disney+ or ESPN+ performed compared to expectations, what events worked best for them, and which ac619d1d87
